Display modes

When you insert a recipe card into a Kit email, you choose one of three display modes. Each mode shows a different amount of recipe content, letting you match the card to the purpose of your email.

Compact

The most minimal display. Best for newsletters where you feature multiple recipes or want the card to be a teaser.

Includes:

  • Primary photo (max height 200px)
  • Recipe title
  • Cook time and servings badges
  • Save This Recipe button

Use when: You are sending a newsletter with several recipes and want each card to be quick to scan. Also good for sidebar-style recipe mentions.

Standard

The most popular choice. Balances visual appeal with enough detail to be useful.

Includes:

  • Primary photo (max height 280px)
  • Recipe title
  • Description (truncated to 2 lines)
  • Cook time, servings, and dietary icon badges
  • Partial ingredient list (up to 8 items, with ”+ N more” if the recipe has more)
  • Save This Recipe button

Use when: You are featuring a single recipe in a broadcast and want subscribers to get a sense of the recipe without leaving the email.

Full

The complete recipe, right in the email. Best when subscribers should be able to cook from the email itself.

Includes:

  • Primary photo (max height 320px)
  • Recipe title
  • Full description
  • Cook time, servings, and dietary icon badges
  • Nutrition summary (if enabled): calories, protein, carbs, and fat
  • Complete ingredient list
  • Complete numbered instructions
  • Save This Recipe button

Use when: You are sending a dedicated recipe email and want subscribers to have everything they need to cook without clicking through.

Changing the display mode

You can change the display mode at any time before sending:

  1. Click the recipe card block in Kit’s editor.
  2. The dough plugin reopens with the current recipe selected.
  3. Toggle between Compact, Standard, and Full.
  4. Click Update to apply the change.

Nutrition display toggle

In Full mode, you have the option to show or hide the nutrition summary. If the recipe has nutrition data (either manually entered or calculated from ingredients), toggling nutrition on displays a row with calories, protein, carbs, and fat per serving.
